Neuromuscular Therapy

Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) is a sort of shortcut, used to stimulate the central nervous system in such a way that tight muscles are softened and lengthened. No need for intense and often painful deep tissue massage. This form of therapy employs the use of the nervous system receptors that are located within muscle tendons at the site where they attach to bone.

Of course you know that in order for bones to move that they are connected together at joints. The muscles are attached near the joints through tendons.

At the junction of tendon and bone we find the nervous system receptors. These receptors are sensitive to tension. Increased tension will cause muscles to relax.

This is a protective reflex action. NMT is quite effective in relieving and eliminating all kinds of pain. NMT techniques simulate tension in the tendon. So when tension is simulated we can effect a “release” or softening and lengthening of the associated muscle. Pain and discomfort are relieved.

Other techniques are used to locate and treat “trigger points”.

Trigger points are small super stimulated nodules within muscle tissues that produce sensations of pain, tingling, numbness, burning, etc. in places sometimes quite distant from where the trigger points are located. For instance, a trigger point in a muscle in your neck could be causing headache pain or even what may feel like eye strain.
